Well I have to say, I could not have been more stoked to land a interview with Dirk Behlau. And if you haven t heard his name I am sure you have seen his photos.

His work can be seen in Ol Skool Rodz, West Coast Choppers, Fuel Magazine,
Kustom Garage, Dynamite Magazine, and much more.
Dirk's photos of Rat rods just stunned me.
I knew I wanted it to be my first interview for Dirty Rotten Rides, so here goes.....

(DRR) Your work is amazing, How long have you been doing this?

(Dirk) Thanks you! Well, if you mean the Hot Rod and Pin-Up photography - about 5 years
ago...and then everything went on quite fast!

(DRR) Did you start with Cars? Girls?

(Dirk) Actually I started with photography about 10 years ago - mainly with Design Hotels
and Interior design. 

(DRR) What was the first magazine shoot you did?

(Dirk) Oh, that must have been about 2000 for Lifestyle & Design magazines.

(DRR) What is your favorite old car? Do you have a old car? Motorcycle?

(Dirk) I love old-style Hot Rods, Mopars and classic race cars. Unfortunately I do not 
have the time for an old car - I'm traveling a lot and work a lot on the weekend. My
daily driver is a Chevrolet HHR in dark Grey with Moon Discs, Door Lettering and
Pin striping by Herb Martinez and MAZE

(DRR) What was your favorite shoot? Why?

(Dirk) That's quite difficult to answer...I had a lot of cool shooting with Pin Ups,
Rock bands, Celebrities etc. so far - this year I had really fun with the Leningrad
Cowboys from Finland. The love my work so much that they hired me as the official
photographer for the Carrera Panamericana Rally - so I went with them to Mexico for
over two weeks...

(DRR) What magazines do you read and why?

(Dirk) Lots of Car Magazines from all over the world, Tattoo and Lifestyle mags...
like Bizarre Magazine (UK), Rock Hard (Germany). I get a lot of free magazines every
month - so thereŽs plenty of new material. Unfortunately I do not have much time to
read everything in detail...
